Bennington County is the home of a total of 12 covered bridges. Of this number, there are 5 historic bridges and 7 non-traditional bridges.
Two of the historic bridges still carry traffic. The Pulp Mill is a "Double-Barrel" bridge. The historic bridges that do not carry traffic include the East Shoreham Railroad Covered Bridge and the privately owned Spade Farm Covered Bridge.
Two of the historic covered bridges are replacements of the original bridges. The Chiselville Covered Bridge is supported by steel I-Beams and a center pier.
Some of the non-traditional bridges are difficult to find. Some are private. And then again, some appear to be historic covered bridges.
The Covered Bridge Museum bridge is not a bridge at all. It houses the Covered Bridge Museum in Bennington.
