The Victorian Village Bridge, part of the Orton Country Store complex, is reminiscent of the simple kingpost spans that once numbered in the hundreds. Note that in addition to the usual king rods, other steel rods support the bridge deck from the middle of each kingpost brace.
This bridge was actually constructed from the remains of the former Depot bridge (45-13-12x) which was in West Townshend. According to the Covered Spans of Yesteryear website "This bridge was removed in 1959 by the US Corps of Engineers to make way for the Townshend flood control project and put into storage. It was shortened to 44' and reconstructed at the Vermont Country Store as VT-13-23 in 1967 replacing a "flimsy, uncovered wooden Bridge".
