A New Krumbach Covered Bridge

Gregor Wenda

Austria Map with coat of arms

Austria, 1/31/2010 - I drove through the village of Krumbach, Lower Austria, yesterday and suddenly noticed two wooden CBs there. One seemed to be an older bridge, the other one still looked fairly new.

As I later learned by surfing the web, the new bridge was only built in 2008 in order to enable pedestrians, especially kids, to reach the local school more quickly.

You can see a nice online gallery about the construction process here: www.krumbach-noe.at/system/web/fotogalerie.aspx?bezirkonr=0&page=0&detailonr=219695507&datum=31.01.2010.

The opening of the new bridge was documented in a separate part of the village website: www.krumbach-noe.at/system/web/fotogalerie.aspx?detailonr=220073134.

The two CBs both span over the creek "Ponholzbach". They are not far from each other as you can see on one photo where the new bridge is visible behind the old one.

The new bridge was opened in 2008, I still have to find out when the older one was built and opened. Both are only suitable for pedestrians and bicycles.

I will try to find our more info, especially technical data, concerning both bridges.

All the best,
Gregor
