March 31, 2021 - Anita Larkin Ford has made us aware of some news concerning the Callaway Gardens Covered Bridge. Daniel Evans with the LaGrange Daily News in LaGrange is reporting that the Callaway Gardens Covered Bridge will be returning to LaGrange after a 56 year absence.

Also known as the Wehadkee Creek Covered Bridge, the Callaway Gardens bridge was built around 1870 by John and George King. Daniel Evans notes that George King was the son of Horace King, a former slave.

The bridge is built with a Town lattice truss and measures 58 feet in length. It was moved from its original location to Callaway Gardens in 1965. The Covered Spans of Yesteryear website notes that the bridge was originally the Harmony Church Covered Bridge (GA-141-02x) before being moved due to dam construction. The middle section of the bridge was moved and became the Callaway Gardens bridge.

At this time there is no firm date on when the move will take place.
