January 24, 2026 – The Sanborn Covered Bridge project progresses quietly and slowly. After the damaging flooding of 2024, the bridge was moved off of the Passumpsic River and has been housed on the Town owned parcel located to the south. Since that time, the engineering team has worked through a new design for the bridge, bringing the floor of the bridge above the 500-year flood event, safeguarding the structure from devastation in the future.
The project has received clearance from 4 of the 5 federal funding partners, has secured the permits required for the project, and is in the final stage of obtaining an extended Construction and Maintenance easement on the north side of the bridge. The project is expected to go out to bid in March 2026. Once bids are received, the Town will determine if the project can happen with the funds that have been secured for the project.
Donations to the Sanborn Covered Bridge project are still being accepted and are greatly appreciated. The Town of Lyndon will determine whether the project can move forward once bids are received.
