Vermont Covered Bridge Society Announces 2026 Board, Leadership and Initiatives

ASCUTNEY, VT (November 18, 2025) – The Vermont Covered Bridge Society (VCBS) is pleased to announce its leadership and Board of Directors for the 2026 season, following recent transitions and appointments ratified at its Fall General Member Meeting.

The organization continues its mission to preserve, promote, and protect Vermont’s historic covered bridges, building on the success of the first annual Covered Bridge Week in Vermont in August and its ongoing community educational programs.

The VCBS looks forward to a productive 2026 season under the guidance of its committed board, focusing on initiatives such as a new mobile-responsive website, a corporate sponsorship program, enhanced member benefits, bridge watch awareness, fire retardant applications, and expanding the covered bridge educational unit to central and southern Vermont.

The VCBS is also calling on all Vermonters to recognize the profound cultural and historical significance of their local covered bridges and take an active role in their preservation—these structures are more than just crossings; they are cherished symbols of the state’s heritage.

The VCBS Board and Committee Chairs for the upcoming year are:

  • President: Beth Brown-Limmer
  • Vice President: Scott Scribner
  • Secretary: Mark Maddox
  • Treasurer: Joe Mitchell
  • Membership Committee Chair: Scott Scribner
  • Publicity Committee Chair: Peggy Wilson
  • Education Committee Chair: Jeanne Beaudry
  • Communications Committee Chair: Steve Miyamoto
  • Events/Fundraising Committee Chair: Beth Brown-Limmer
  • Bridge Watch Committee Chair: Miles Jenness
  • Historical Committee Chair: Steve Miyamoto

The VCBS welcomes Joe Mitchell as the new treasurer—the third treasurer to serve VCBS in its 25-year history. Neil Daniels and Daniel Monger, former treasurers, joined in congratulating Joe at the Fall meeting.

A new assistant treasurer position was formalized through a bylaw change, allowing for better continuity and support in the organization’s financial management.

Founded in 2000, the Vermont Covered Bridge Society (VCBS) is dedicated to the preservation and appreciation of Vermont’s covered bridges. Through education, advocacy, and restoration support, VCBS works to ensure these historic landmarks remain an integral part of Vermont’s cultural heritage. The organization collaborates with historians, preservationists, and communities to safeguard these structures for future generations.
